Straight answers.
Are these rugs genuinely handwoven?
Yes. Every rug in the TIZIRI collection was made by hand by Berber weavers in Morocco. No machines were involved at any stage — not in the spinning, not in the dyeing, not in the weaving. The irregularities you see in the pile and pattern are evidence of this, not flaws.
Where do the rugs come from?
We source from weavers and cooperatives across Morocco — Khenifra, Mrirt, Oued Zem, Marrakech, Beni Mellal, and Azilal. Each piece is selected in person. We do not buy from wholesalers or intermediaries.
What does "vintage" mean on your product pages?
We use "vintage" to describe rugs that are at least 20–30 years old. These pieces have already been lived on — which means they have shed their loose fibres, the colours have mellowed to their permanent tone, and the pile has settled. They are often the most stable and characterful rugs we carry.
Are the colours accurate in the photographs?
We photograph in natural light without colour correction. Screens vary, so there will always be a degree of difference — but we work to make the photographs as honest as possible. If you want to see a piece in different light or from a different angle before committing, ask us and we will send more.
How do I buy a rug?
Click "Enquire About This Piece" on any product page. This opens an email to us with the rug details pre-filled. We will respond within one working day with availability confirmation and payment details.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept bank transfer and Stripe payment links (card payment). We will send you the appropriate details when you enquire.
Can I reserve a rug while I decide?
We can hold a piece for 48 hours on request. After that, it returns to available. We cannot hold for longer — each rug is one of a kind and it would not be fair to other buyers.
Can I order something similar to a sold piece?
No. When a rug sells, it is finished — it cannot be reordered or replicated. If you are looking for a piece with similar characteristics, write to us and we will let you know when something comparable comes in.
How do I choose the right size?
The most common mistake is buying too small. A rug that only covers part of a seating area tends to look accidental. As a guide: in a living room, the rug should sit under at least the front legs of all the main furniture. In a bedroom, it should extend at least 60 cm beyond each side of the bed.
Tape out the dimensions on your floor before you buy. It takes five minutes and removes most of the uncertainty.
The dimensions listed — are they exact?
Handwoven rugs are not perfectly rectangular and their dimensions vary slightly along each edge. The measurements listed are the maximum length and width. Expect a variation of 2–4 cm in any direction.
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes. Every rug ships from Morocco via tracked courier. Delivery times and full shipping details are on our Shipping & Returns page.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping to the United States is complimentary on all orders. For Europe and all other destinations, shipping cost is confirmed at the time of enquiry — before you commit to anything.
Can I return a rug if it doesn't work in my space?
Yes — within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. We arrange collection at no cost to you. Full details on our Returns page.
How do I clean a handwoven rug?
Regular vacuuming on a low setting is enough for day-to-day maintenance. For spills, blot immediately — do not rub. Full guidance is on our Care Guide page.
My new rug is shedding. Is that normal?
Yes. New handwoven rugs shed loose fibres for the first few months of use. It will stop. Vacuum regularly during this period.
Do you work with interior designers, architects, or hospitality projects?
Yes. TIZIRI works regularly with interior designers, architects, stylists, and hospitality projects seeking exceptional Moroccan rugs. Whether you are sourcing a singular piece or need support with a larger commission, we can assist with product selection, sizing, and production timelines. Get in touch to discuss your project.
What is the made to order service?
Our made to order service lets you commission a new rug based on one of our catalogue designs — at your exact size and colour preference. Every piece is still handwoven by Berber artisans in Morocco using traditional techniques.
How do I start a commission?
Browse the design catalogue and click "Enquire about this design" on the piece you like. Tell us your dimensions and any colour preferences. We'll confirm pricing and lead time within one working day.
Can I change the colours or adapt a design?
Yes. The catalogue designs are starting points. You can request different colours, adjust the scale of a pattern, or combine elements from more than one design. We'll advise on what's achievable with natural wool dyes and traditional weaving techniques.
How long does a made to order rug take?
Typically 6–8 weeks from deposit to delivery. This covers the weaving time with our artisan partners in Morocco plus international shipping. We'll give you a more precise timeline when we confirm your order.
How does payment work?
We take a 50% deposit to confirm the order and start weaving. The remaining 50% is due before the rug ships. Payment is made securely via Stripe — all major cards accepted. We send you the payment link once we've agreed the design, size and price.
What if I want something not in the catalogue?
We also take fully custom commissions. If you have a colour palette, motif or size in mind that isn't listed, write to us and describe what you're looking for. We'll let you know what's possible.
If your question isn't covered here, write to us. We reply within one working day and we give straight answers.
